Question about Blu-rays
Hi! I hope somebody still reads this comm because I need your help ^^

I have a question about Blu-rays. Arashi is starting to release Blu-rays and now I don't know if buying the DVD or Blu-ray version of their concerts. I made a quick investigation on CDJapan and I see that all Johnnys releases say "region free".... is this true? have any of you had any problem regarding region? did your blu-ray say "region free" and when you tried it, it wasn't?

I don't have a Blu-ray player but since my old dvd player is starting to fail I'm wondering if I should buy one now? what do you think?
I also investigated about Blu-ray players and I haven't found one that actually says if it's region free or which region it is.... so I'm afraid of buying one region blocked who won't be able to play japanese discs :s  do you think JE (or the particular records of each group) will keep releasing free region Blu-rays?
I see that both versions cost the same and I don't know the pros and cons of the different formats u.u
Any help is very welcomed! ^---^b

I didn't even think to look at the region. I just assumed it was the same as before and I wouldn't be able to play it. T_T Unfortunately I have no experience buying it and being about to play it, but maybe the info below will help.

Looking around, it seems blu-ray is a bit more open with its regions. Here is yesasia's chart and it shows that Japan and North America (along with others) are now in the same region for blu-ray (yay!!): http://www.yesasia.com/us/customer-support/0-0-0-hti.1670-en/question-answer.html

Usually your blu-ray player will be set to the region you buy it in. It can be changed to other regions (usually) but it limits the number of times you can change it before the change becomes permanent. But it looks like we would be fine buying it. (Too bad I already bought the DVD T_T)

Thank you so much!!!! *hugs* that link was super useful! <3 I'm glad that I have the same region as US and Japan! :D yay! so that means even if it's region blocked, the player should be fine playing those discs!!!! perfect! ^---^
Oh! I did what you said with the dvd player/recorder of my computer and I also hacked my dvd player to make it free zone... but I read that Samsung and Sony players are unhackeable, that's why I was so afraid of buying a useless blu-ray player ^^U

now I'm wondering if blu-ray players are free dvd zone or not, it would be a huge problem being able to play blu-ray discs but no the japanese dvds @.@
